In 2019, I was honored to be selected as a camp committee member for the Ali de Speranza Famine-30 DIY Camp, where I contributed to fundraising, camp setup, and guided over 1,000 campers.

Building on my past experiences as a camper in 2016 and a volunteer for two consecutive years, I wanted to further challenge myself and step into a higher leadership role. Being entrusted by the senior committees affirmed my growth and potential, while also placing greater responsibilities on me — from managing tasks independently to demonstrating professionalism, social skills, and active engagement throughout the camp.

This role gave me a new perspective and taught me the importance of adaptability, teamwork, and leadership at a higher level. It was an unforgettable experience that not only strengthened my confidence but also contributed significantly to my personal and professional development.

On the 21st of July 2019, Ali de Speranza was awarded the title of “Largest 30-Hour Famine DIY Camp 2019.” The moment was unforgettable — we cheered and celebrated together in the stadium, filled with pride for what we had achieved as a team. I am deeply thankful to our camp commander for his outstanding leadership in guiding the camp so professionally. Watching how the top 5 commanders handled the planning, decisions, and responsibilities with such composure and dedication was truly inspiring. They carried the heaviest weight of the camp, yet they led with confidence and care. I look up to my seniors with great respect, and this experience has motivated me to continue learning from them. I hope to have more opportunities in the future to work alongside leaders of such caliber and to grow into a stronger leader myself.

On the 20th of July 2019, we celebrated the opening ceremony of the Ali de Speranza 8-Hour Kidz Famine and 30-Hour Famine Camp. Distinguished sponsors and the board of directors of SJKC Perempuan Klang were invited as our honored guests to officiate the start of the famine countdown. As it marked my 4th year joining, I felt a deep sense of gratitude and respect for these sponsors and directors. They were not only the financial backbone behind making the camp possible, but also the unwavering support system behind the scenes for over a decade. With generosity and loyalty, the sponsors never once turned us down, always stepping forward to provide the goods and resources we needed. The board of directors of SJKC Perempuan Klang has also been nothing short of inspiring. By opening their campus to us and encouraging the younger generation, they gave us trust, space, and motivation to grow. To me, they are true role models — adults who empower youth to shine, while standing by us whenever we need help. Their kindness and faith in us will always have my greatest respect.

On the 12th of August 2019, Ali de Speranza held its feast celebration, bringing together the camp committee members and volunteers from both the 8-Hour Kidz Famine and 30-Hour Famine. Sitting among familiar faces, sharing food and laughter, it felt less like an event and more like a family reunion, where every memory of the camp came rushing back as if it happened only yesterday. I am truly thankful to have been part of this journey from start to finish, and even more grateful to the committees and volunteers who accepted me wholeheartedly despite my flaws. The kindness, patience, and support I received from them made me realize the true meaning of teamwork and belonging.

As I look back, I know these moments will forever be some of the most precious in my youth. I carry with me the joy of being part of something bigger than myself, and I look forward with hope that one day, I will reunite with this remarkable team to create more memories together.

Ali de Speranza (2019) also marks the 10th Anniversary of it's 8-Hour Kidz Famine Camp and 30-Hour Famine Camp at SJKC Perempuan Klang. Altogether, camp commander and camp committees of the 10 years gathered to sing the "Ali de Speranza song".
