In 2017, I volunteered at the Ali de Speranza Famine-30 DIY Camp, supporting fundraising efforts, camp setup, and guiding over 1,000 campers throughout the event.
My first encounter with the 30-Hour Famine was in 2016 as a participant. Inspired by the impact of the experience, I decided to take a leap the following year and return as a camp volunteer. Being part of the organizing side was eye-opening — I gained hands-on experience in leadership, teamwork, and responsibility while learning to manage a large and diverse group of people.
The camp brought together participants of different ages, backgrounds, and professions, giving me the chance to communicate and collaborate with seniors and committee members outside my usual comfort zone. It challenged me to be independent, proactive, and professional in every task, from guiding campers to maintaining the reputation of the camp. This experience shaped me into a more confident and capable individual. It was not only about giving back but also about growing as a leader and team player.

The opening ceremony of the Ali de Speranza 8-Hour Kidz Famine and 30-Hour Famine Camp was held on the 29th of July 2017. Respected sponsors and the board of directors of SJKC Perempuan Klang officiated the beginning of the famine countdown. These sponsors are truly admirable, as they have continuously provided funds and sponsored goods to make the camp possible without ever asking for returns. Ali de Speranza sponsors have rarely turned down requests, instead generously offering their support year after year. Likewise, the board of directors of SJKC Perempuan Klang have always shown strong encouragement and genuine care for the youth. They are ever ready to assist us whenever we are in need. These adults have my deepest respect for trusting, supporting, motivating, and giving young generations the chance to grow and shine.

On the 22nd of August 2017, Ali de Speranza held its feast celebration inviting camp committee members and camp volunteers of both Ali de Speranza 8-Hour Kidz Famine and 30-Hour Famine. It was nice to gather all together once again as this is my first time to be invited. I am glad to be part of everything from the beginning to the end of the camp. I am also thankful to the other committees and volunteers for enduring my shortcomings or any unpleasant behavior of mine. It means a lot for me to feel welcomed and accepted by the team. I look forward to meeting this awesome team again in the future and at the next camp! They have granted me the opportunity to create wonderful memories during my youth days.
